COSMOS is a four-week residential summer program for students passionate about STEM, organized by the University of California System. Students immerse themselves in specialized "clusters" on UC campuses, working with faculty on research-style projects. While primarily for high schoolers, California residents in grade 8 are eligible to apply. Applications for the Summer 2027 programs are expected to open around December 2026 and close around February 2027. Eligibility requires demonstrated STEM aptitude. The program is state-funded, making it significantly more affordable than comparable private programs. Specific costs and application materials will be detailed when the application window opens.
