About
The Smithsonian Science Education Center (SSEC) offers "Smithsonian Science for the Classroom," a comprehensive, phenomenon- and problem-driven core science curriculum for grades K-5. While primarily a curriculum for schools, the SSEC also provides various digital resources, including a "Game Center" and "Starting with Sustainability Lesson Sets" that offer project-based learning opportunities for individual or classroom use. Teachers or parents can access these resources to implement hands-on science projects throughout the 2026-2027 academic year. Although not a traditional competition or camp to "enroll" in, these curriculum materials and associated resources provide structured, hands-on science enrichment where students engage in scientific explanations and engineering design challenges. Access to the curriculum and many digital resources is typically through schools or direct purchase of materials. Many digital resources are free.
