A national competition for students in grades 5-8, organized by 3M and Discovery Education, challenging them to create a video explaining a unique science-based solution to an everyday problem.
About
Participants are challenged to create a 1-2 minute video explaining a unique solution to an everyday problem using science, and the science behind their solution. Entries for the 2026 challenge are accepted until April 30, 2026. Ten finalists will be selected in June 2026 to participate in an exclusive summer mentorship program with a 3M scientist. The final event, where the "America's Top Young Scientist" is chosen, will take place at the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, from October 12-14, 2026. The competition is free to enter.
Who's eligible
Students in grades 5-8.
